Co-Investigators:

Project summary:

In 2007, the United States Department of Transportation selected Mn/DOT, along with the Twin Cities Metropolitan Council, as an "urban partner" in its Urban Partnership Agreement program (UPA). The coalition will promote the use of telecommuting within the business community in order to reduce congestion on some of the area's busiest roadways. The coalition will recruit mid- to large-sized employers and help them establish or expand their telecommuting programs. Researchers will use surveys and other performance-tracking tools to assess the effectiveness of the initiative as they go and will document their findings so that future telecommuting initiatives can learn from this pilot program. When the project is completed in 2010, commuters will experience increased transportation choices, decreased traffic congestion, and reduced commute times on the selected roads.
